Redskins sign former Raven’s kicker
The Redskins have signed kicker Billy Cundiff, a few days after the Baltimore Ravens released him. In a corresponding move the Redskins have released Graham Gano, who appeared to have won the starting kicker job. Cundiff is a veteran kicker known to most fans by his 32 yard field goal miss during the final seconds of last year’s AFC championship game. Gano missed a league leading 11 attempts in 2010, but had beaten out fellow kicker Neil Rackers this spring training.
No formal announcement has been made. Cundiff, who has a marginally better field goal percentage, did make the pro bowl in 2010 before having a down year last year in 2011. He also made only 1 out of 6 field goals from 50 yards or further, and has a career 5 for 19 mark on field goals over 50 yards. The Ravens have decided to start rookie Justin Tucker.
