‘Real Housewives of NJ’ stars to appear in court
Two stars on the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” show are scheduled to appear in court facing federal fraud charges.
Teresa Giudice and her husband Giuseppe Giudice were scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday morning. On Monday, the couple was charged with a 39-count indictment with conspiracy to commit mail, wire, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications, and bankruptcy fraud.
The couple is accused of exaggerating their income while applying for loans before their TV show aired in 2009. The couple hid their fortunes while filing for bankruptcy after the first season aired.
Authorities believe the couple submitted fraudulent mortgage and other loan applications from 2001 to 2008, right before the show debuted. Prosecutors say the couple submitted fake W-2s, tax returns, and bank account information to lenders.
In a statement Teresa said, “I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career.”
In their 2009 bankruptcy filing, the couple claimed to be $11 million in debt. They stated that their monthly income pay was $16, 583, but $10,000 was from monthly family assistance and income from Bravo.
