Memorial events for late D.C. Mayor and Council member Marion Barry will begin with a ceremony Thursday morning. Police are prepared to close streets as necessary throughout the three-day memorial.

On Thursday, Barry’s body will lie in repose in the Wilson Building for 24 Hours. Pennsylvania Avenue NW will be closed between 12th and 14th streets at times between 8 a.m. and midnight Thursday and 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday as needed.

On Friday morning between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Barry’s body will be taken to the Temple of Praise at 700 Southern Avenue SE, by public procession. This will cause delays and closures along the procession route.

On Saturday, Barry’s funeral will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center Halls C&D, 801 Mount Vernon Place NW. A viewing will precede the service from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 1 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. Police will close L Street NW between 7th and 9th Streets during the viewing hours, and say they expect up to 15,000 to attend.
