Russia launched a deadly strike on Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv early Thursday morning, killing at least 12 people, including two children, and injuring over 90 in the strike. The attack is one of the deadliest in the city since Russia launched a full-scale invasion on Ukraine over three years ago. This attack sparked a rare criticism from President Trump of Russia’s actions. Thursday morning, Trump released a social media post saying he was “not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv.” He also said it was, “not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!”
The Trump administration has demanded that Ukraine accept a peace plan sharply favoring the Kremlin. The Ukrainian military said that Russia launched at least 215 drones and missiles at Ukraine, primarily aimed at the capital. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klitschko, said many houses were destroyed in a video post on the messaging app Telegram. He also said, “We are now going through the rubble with our hands, we’re not using machinery. There may be people still under the rubble.”Drones were heard overhead in the middle of the night, followed by multiple explosions as Ukraine’s air defense tried to shoot down the drones.”
