Penn State officials tied to sex abuse case step down

Two Penn State officials stepped down, each facing counts of perjury in the child sexual abuse case against former coach Jerry Sandusky. Penn State Athletic Director Timothy Curley, 57, and Gary Schultz, 62, are accused of misleading a grand jury in its investigation. According to Attorney General Linda Kelly, Curly and Schultz “allegedly failed to report the sexual assault of a young boy after the information was brought to their attention, and later made false statements to a grand jury that was investigating a series of assaults on young boys.”

University President Graham Spanier called the charges “groundless,” and said that Curley and Schultz have his “unconditional support.” Former coach Sandusky allegedly assaulted eight boys, ranging in age from 8 to 14, between 1994 and 2009. Sandusky was released Saturday on $100,000 bail.
