‘Occupy the Highway’ arrives in D.C.
Following two weeks and 240 miles of marching, participants of Occupy Wall Street who began in New York are expected to arrive in the nation’s capital. The march began with 21 participants from Zuccotti Park. Some of the original marchers dropped out because of shin splints or fevers, but more joined with them. About two dozen participants are expected to arrive in D.C.
The marchers will be meeting up with the Occupy D.C. encampment in McPherson Square sometime Tuesday. The march was planned to coincide with an announcement by the congressional super committee on deficit-reduction. The super committee’s failure to reach a deal strengthens the protesters’ message, according to organizer Kelley Brannon.
