Obama campaign manager joins Brown’s campaign

President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign manager has joined Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s campaign as he runs for Governor of Maryland.

Brown announced on Monday that Jim Messina will help with all aspects of the campaign, including volunteer organizing and fundraising. Brown has also announced that he has raised $1 million since the end of his legislation session in April.

Brown will most likely be challenged for the Democratic nomination by Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, whose formal announcement is expected in September.

Montgomery County Del. Heather Mizeur is also planning to run, as well as Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger.

Maryland’s primary will be held in June of next year.
