No tax break for Trump in Old Post Office redevelopment
The Donald Trump Organization has plans to redevelop the Old Post Office Pavilion from a tourist food court and shopping area into a luxury hotel and spa featuring several restaurants. Given that the Old Post Office is a federally owned building, Trump and his daughter Ivanka has petitioned DC lawmakers to consider a special tax rate, or foregoing taxes altogether as an incentive to make redevelopment more cost effective. Mayor Vincent Gray and several other councilmembers decided against the enormous tax break for the enormously wealthy man. Instead the District will require the Trump Organization to pay millions in local property taxes.
