The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has barred transgender women from competing in women’s sports, citing compliance with a February executive order signed by President Trump. The order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” threatens to revoke federal funding from organizations that allow transgender athletes in women’s competitions. The change was posted quietly to the USOPC website and later confirmed in a letter to governing bodies, requiring all affiliated organizations, such as USA Swimming and USA Track and Field, to align their policies accordingly.
Critics, including the National Women’s Law Center, condemned the move as discriminatory and politically motivated. The decision follows similar policy shifts at the NCAA and among international sport federations ahead of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
