NATIONAL NEWS – Supreme Court rejects geography-based admissions policy for schools

On Monday, the Supreme Court released its decision not to hear a Boston-area case regarding geography-based admissions policies. The case became significant following the court’s 2023 ruling that struck down affirmative action.

The case involved a 2021 overhaul of admission criteria for three of Boston’s most competitive schools. The new policy reserved seats for students with the highest GPAs in each Boston neighborhood rather than relying on standardized test scores.

By declining to hear the case, the court effectively upheld its earlier precedent, maintaining its stance from the 2023 affirmative action ruling.
