A federal judge in New York has denied the Trump administration’s request to unseal grand jury transcripts in the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking case, ruling that disclosure would add little to what the government already possesses and could endanger victims. Judge Richard Berman noted that the government already holds over 100,000 pages of Epstein-related files, dwarfing the 70 pages of transcripts sought. The decision follows a similar ruling against releasing grand jury testimony in the case of Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence.

Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019, allegedly abused hundreds of girls and women while cultivating ties with powerful figures. President Trump, under fire from his supporters for failing to release more Epstein files, despite earlier promises, has faced renewed scrutiny over his past ties to the disgraced financier. Victims’ attorneys praised the ruling, citing concerns about safety and privacy. Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee plans to release some subpoenaed DOJ materials once sensitive information is redacted.
