Nancy Pelosi will remain House Democrat leader

After careful consideration, Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi has chosen to remain the House of Representatives minority leader. She will continue to lead the House Democrats, who will remain the minority after last week’s general election. She has said she was motivated to stay on so she could help get more women elected, mitigate the influence of money in politics, and maintain the Healthcare Reform Act. “From the standpoint of the victory that we had at the polls,” Pelosi said, referring to the seven seats Democrats picked up in the House during the election, “I wouldn’t think of walking away.” She did recall a conversation she’d had with a family member to tried to persuade her to retire, “What I said to him was, ‘There’s not enough hours in the day for me.’ There’s so much more I want to do.” Pelosi’s decision to remain means the House leadership will remain unchanged from what it has been since seven years ago.
