Maryland Governor Wes Moore is facing numerous budget issues and President Trump’s dramatic efforts to downsize the federal government’s workforce crucial to Maryland’s economy said that the state must become less reliant on federal jobs. Governor Moore also stated that Maryland’s economy must become less reliant on federal jobs. This presents the challenge for Maryland to further develop other economic sectors and bolster its own economy as Moore stated in a speech on Wednesday.

Moore is a rising star in the Democratic party and has been seen as someone with the potential to win the party’s presidential nomination in the future. Moore stated, “We are being tested by a historic fiscal challenge ” the likes that we haven’t seen since the Great Recession ” and if that wasn’t enough, we are now being tested by a new administration in Washington that sows uncertainty and confusion, and chaos. The first few weeks into Trump’s presidency have jolted Maryland’s economy as the federal hiring freeze and his proposal for a widespread buyout plan encouraged federal workers to quit their jobs. In addition to this, the flurry of executive orders sent shock waves into the state. As Maryland works to recover Governor Moore will have to rise to the occasion for his political future.
