MARYLAND NEWS – Abortion rights enshrined in Maryland’s state constitution for “future generations”

Maryland voters approved a constitutional amendment guaranteeing access to abortion, with 76% voting in favor during the 2025 election. Governor Wes Moore signed a proclamation enshrining this right, providing the strongest protections for abortion rights in the state’s history.

The amendment also shields healthcare providers and patients from legal consequences tied to abortion bans in other states and guarantees access to birth control. Governor Moore stated, “This amendment ensures that future generations of Marylanders will have the same reproductive rights Marylanders have today—no matter who is in office.”
