Liberals also targeted by IRS

An inspector general who reported that the IRS also targeted liberal groups has now received information confirming the term “progressive” was on a list of words which helped decide which groups needed extra scrutiny as they applied for tax-exempt status. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George released an audit in May revealing “tea party” and other conservative words were used to pick certain groups for further inspection. George received proof of the targeting of liberal groups on July 9.

Documents recently discovered reveled liberal labels were also used by IRS employees to pick out groups. “They were not provided during our audit, even though similar documents that list quote ‘tea party’ unquote but not ‘progressive’ were,” He said. “I am very disturbed that these documents were not provided to our auditors at the outset, and we are currently reviewing this issue.”
