Iran deploys submarine in Persian Gulf

Iran deployed one of its Russian made submarines into the Persian Gulf yesterday, after U.S performed naval exercises near Iran. The U.S said the exercises were not towards any one country but defensive in their nature. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, authorized the launching of the submarine, saying “the armed forces should be upgraded in a way that no one will be able to violate the reinforced fortress of Iran.” Iran bought the submarines in the early 1990s from Russia.

Iran sees the naval exercises as a response to Iran’s warning for military action after tighter sanctions were embossed on it from the west. “The root of insecurity in the region is the military presence of Western and foreign powers which easily trample the interests of countries of the region to secure their own interests and provoke instability and insecurity,” said Iran’s military spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast. This comes after U.S and its allies have accused Iran of trying to produce a nuclear weapon, which Iran denies.
