Ill. Congressman wants to permanently end web tax

U.S. Representative Randy Hultgreen wants to extend a measure that currently prevents both state and local governments from taxing internet services. The congressman stated that adding a tax would harm the economy’s growth and hinder internet innovations. According to Hultgreen, the Internet has become an essential tool for education, jobs and running businesses. Unless lawmakers choose to extend it, the tax ban on internet services will expire in November. First enacted in 1998, the Internet Tax Freedom Act prevents state or local governments form imposing new taxes on internet access, also preventing multiple imposed or discriminatory taxing on internet commerce.
