Representative John Mica (R-FL) brought a fake joint to a House oversight hearing on Friday in Washington D.C’s new law decriminalizing marijuana usage. Mica, who opposes marijuana legalization, says the law will allow D.C. residents to possess up to 20 joints, and he brought along the fake ones to make a point. Mica also stated he believed Congress had the right to interfere and examine laws of the District of Colombia due to the fact that it is not a state but a federal district. David A. O’Neil who acted as assistant attorney general in charge of DOJ’s Criminal Division stated,”The Administration will treat D.C. in the same manner as every other jurisdiction with respect to the enforcement of federal marijuana laws.”
