Feds subpoena Christie’s campaign
Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed Governor Christie’s re-election campaign and the state Republican leadership due to Christie’s aides to create traffic jams as political payback. The subpoenas seek documents related to the closure of traffic lanes near the George Washington Bridge. The state legislative committee who is investigating the traffic jams also issued a subpoena to Christie’s campaign. Four people close to Christie have resigned or been fired as the scandal continues to unfold, including his two-time campaign manager, Bill Stepien. Potential charges that could emerge from the political payback scandal range from conspiracy and official misconduct to perjury or obstruction. The easiest charge to bring would be conspiracy, considering documents have already proven multiple people worked together to shut the road down for illegal purposes.
