NYC police to keep close eye on Super Bowl fans
New York City Police will be watching Super Bowl fans closely in person, in the air, and on closed-circuit monitors this year. 200 temporary surveillance cameras have been installed in midtown Manhattan to help spot trouble along “Super Bowl Boulevard,” the 13-block street fair on Broadway that is expected to draw larger crowds for the game. Banners have even been posted reading “NYPD Security Camera in Area.” With Manhattan and Brooklyn being the site for dozens of pre-game gatherings, Newark will be staging Media Day while Jersey City will host both the Seahawks and Broncos at hotels there before kickoff. Officials stated success will be measured partially on how well authorities conceal the concern over potential threats. Analytical software has been installed to program the city’s thousands of cameras to detect suspicious activity. Hundreds of extra uniformed and plainclothes officers will also be placed throughout the crowds.
