MSNBC is set to become My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, as Comcast moves forward with the $7 billion spinoff of its cable networks later this year. The change is designed to create a distinct identity separate from NBCUniversal while keeping the network’s focus on both news reporting and opinion coverage. MS NOW will no longer use the NBC peacock logo, though CNBC, USA, Oxygen, and E! will also separate under the new company, Versant, which will manage the majority of NBCUniversal’s cable holdings.

The rebrand follows a broader trend in media, with companies like Warner Bros. Discovery, Dotdash Meredith, and Roku recently updating names and branding for their services. MS NOW leadership says the network will continue serving a progressive audience, aiming to hold political figures from both parties accountable. Staffers were initially told there would be no name change, but executives decided to adopt a new identity to reduce brand confusion and clarify the network’s focus after the spinoff.

NBCUniversal’s remaining properties, including NBC, Bravo, and the Peacock streaming service, will stay under the parent company. Network executives, including MS NOW President Rebecca Kutler, have emphasized building an independent newsgathering operation while maintaining the network’s reputation as the second-highest-rated cable news outlet behind Fox News.
