Democrats drafting a tax-break “action plan” for middle class
Senior Democrats have recently drafted an “action plan” to help combat income inequality. The proposal includes a paycheck bonus credit that would shave $2,000 a year off the tax bills of couples earning less than $200,000. The plan would use the tax code to persuade employers to boost wages. U.S. Representative Chris Van Hollen stated that all Americans and not just the wealthy should be able to benefit from a growing economy. Van Hollen’s plan acknowledges that there needs to be more policy in place to help reconnect middle-class families with overall growth. Income equality has always been a major issue for the Democrats, but the proposal would have little to no chance in Congress, where Republicans now have the majority in both the Senate and House.
