Del. Dwyer arrested for drunk driving
Maryland Delegate Don Dwyer has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, impaired driving, negligent driving, speeding, and other charges. Dwyer was charged two weeks after pleading guilty to operating a boat while drunk during a 2012 crash that left seven people injured, including himself.
Dwyer was arrested on Tuesday in Pasadena, Md.
According to charging documents, an officer stopped Dwyer’s car, which contained Maryland House of Delegates tags on Md. 100 near Edwin Raynor Boulevard. The car was being driven erratically.
Dwyer told the officer that he had just left a tavern and had two beers earlier in the evening. The officer said that Dwyer performed poorly during three field sobriety tests. According to police, Dwyer refused a breath test and was placed under arrest.
Earlier this month, Dwyer pleaded guilty to a drunken boating charge. Three months ago, he pleaded guilty to the same charge in district court, but appealed to a higher court.
Dwyer will be sentenced for the boating charge on Oct. 25.
