D.C. man admits murdering ex-wife in front of children

48-year-old Claude Kinney pleaded guilty Tuesday to stabbing his estranged wife in front of their children last month. The victim, 42-year-old Alecia Wheeler, had obtained a temporary protection order against Kinney on Sept. 12. Kinney attempted to recover some items from Wheeler’s home the following day, and visited one of their children at school. Later, as Wheeler picked up their children from school, Kinney stabbed her.

Officers found Kinney shortly after the stabbing occurred. He was covered in blood, and reportedly said, “I don’t know why she made me do this.” Kinney and prosecutors have requested a 30-year sentence. Judge Gerald Fisher determine Kinney’s sentence in January.
