A 500-foot crane that had been erected at the Washington National Cathedral following a 5.8 earthquake collapsed, falling onto two buildings. The crane fell into the Herb Cottage which acts as the Cathedral gift shop and also fell into the Church House which houses diocese offices.

The operator of the crane was taken to a hospital for evaluation, however, the extent of injuries is still unknown. Fire and EMS vehicles are on the scene. The crane was put up to repair earthquake damage to the 100-year-old church.
