POLITICS NEWS – Trump defies court ruling, forces US Postal Service to ignore the court on mail-in ballots

Following through on President Trump’s executive order signed in March, the administration is defying two court orders to thrwart mail-in voting.  At the president’s behest, the United States Postal Service has issued a “final order” that would restrict mail-in voting just two months ahead of the November elections. The USPS stated that it would provide mail ballots to states that give voter information to Trump and his administration. On Friday, the agency admitted that court injunctions from the states of Massachusetts and California must be lifted to enact Trump’s order, but warned states to be prepared to “submit data” before they can receive mail-in and absentee ballots.

Critics of the president argue that he has created a double standard in frequently voting by mail-in ballot himself, while making demands on American voters to submit voter information. The postal service would essentially compile a list of voters allowed to vote by the Trump administration’s permission, which would give the power to vote to the president, a power the U. S. Constitution gives only to Congress.

The case of the mail-in ballots is now in the hands of the U. S. Supreme Court, which could rule on the case at anytime now. Trump has asked the court to expedite their ruling before the mid-term elections in November.
