A contentious hearing unfolded on Capitol Hill following the group chat scandal that rocked the intelligence community. According to The Atlantic’s reporter, Jeffrey Goldberg, the nation’s top intelligence officials CIA director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard jeopardized national security when they added the reporter to a group chat. They testified that they did not share any classified information in this messaging group chat related to the U.S. bombing in Yemen. Democratic senators on the Senate Intelligence Committee pushed back against the claims made by CIA director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
Ratcliffe testified saying, “My communications, to be clear, in a Signal message group were entirely permissible and lawful and did not include classified information. During her testimony, Gabbard refused to say whether or not she was on the Signal chat, but said that she did not share any classified information outside of proper channels.
Goldberg’s article stated that Gabbard and Ratcliffe were among the 18 individuals who had participated in the text chain, including JD Vance and Pete Hegseth. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, the ranking Democrat on the committee, called on the intelligence officials to release the material that was sent in the group chat saying, “If there was no classified material, share it with the committee, Warner said. “You can’t have it both ways. These are important jobs. This is our national security. Warner went on to describe their actions as “sloppy, careless, and incompetent behavior.
