Authorities report that a sheriff’s deputy was shot while responding to a break-in call at a home in Virginia. According to Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman M.C. Morris Moncure, the residents of the home reported the break in Tuesday night. When the deputy responded, a man fired multiple shots. The deputy was struck four times, but was protected by body armor. While the deputy’s injuries are serious, Morris Moncure says the injuries are not life-threatening. It is unknown whether the deputy also fired any shots. According to a sheriff’s office statement, authorities have arrested a suspect, 18-year-old Joshua Anthony Sumter. Sumter was sought on warrants for attempted capital murder.
