BiblioTech revolutionizes the library
BiblioTech, the first bookless library, made its debut in Texas in September, and is seeing enormous success. The store has 10,000 e-books, but store employees say that BiblioTech’s physical presence is what is making so successful. Laura Cole, the company’s special project’s coordinator says: “we’re finding that you really have to get your head around a paradigm shift. Our digital library is stored in the cloud, so you don’t have to come in to get a book. But we’re a traditional library in that thr building itself is an important community space.”
The 4,800 square-foot space is ultra modern, with orange walls, plush seating and a plethera of devices like iPads, laptops and desktops.
Bexar County judge Nelson Wolff began the idea for the modern library when he realized that libraries needed to evolve with technology. ” Not all libraries are going to be like us, and we understand that” he said. “But we sure do hope it’s going to drive them to do more to evolve. The world ischnaging and libraries can’t stay the same. Not if they want to stay relevant.”
