U.S. reopens diplomatic posts
All U.S. diplomatic posts except one were reopened on Sunday according to the State Department after they were closed for a week because of a possible al Qaeda attack. 19 embassies and consulates within the Middle East and North Africa were closed on Sunday August 4th after communications were discovered between leaders of al Qaeda. The embassy in Sanaa, Yemen will remain closed.
Later in the week, the State Department also removed diplomatic employees from the consulate in Lahore, Pakistan. This consulate will also remain closed. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, “We will continue to evaluate the threats to Sanaa and Lahore and make subsequent decisions about the reopening of those facilities based on that information.”
