Jesse Jackson Jr. treated for ‘mood disorder,’ reports say
Democratic Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois is at an undisclosed residential treatment facility receiving medical treatment for a mood disorder, his doctors and aids reported on Wednesday, stopping two days of intense speculation about his whereabouts and political future. Jackson’s office also strongly disputed rumors about his condition and a report by NBC News on Wednesday night that Jackson is receiving treatment for alcohol and addiction issues at a facility in Arizona.
Acknowledging federal medical privacy laws, the Congressman’s office said in a statement on Wednesday evening that it would not release specific details of the congressman’s condition, nor his current location. However, in a statement attributed to an unnamed physician, Jackson’s office said, “The Congressman is receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder. He is responding positively to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.”
