Health care ruling by Supreme Court to come on Thursday

The United States Supreme Court will determine on Thursday on the constitutionality of the health reform act that was historically championed by President Barack Obama. The court also announced a series of other decisions on Monday, including striking down key provisions in Arizona’s controversial immigration law, but did not however announce the most anticipated ruling, health care. The high court said that all remaining rulings for the year will be announced in three days.

The Supreme Court’s crucial decision will have a great impact, immediate and long-term, on all citizens of the United States, both in how they receive medicine and health care, and also in vast, yet unknown areas of “commerce.” The landmark 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, passed by congressional Democrats despite Republican opposition, required that the majority of Americans purchase health insurance or pay a fine. Supporters of the act argued the “individual mandate” is necessary for the system to work, while the opposition argued it’s an unconstitutional intrusion on freedom of individuals.
