University of Maryland approves 3 percent tuition hike

Students attending the University of Maryland can expect to see an increase in their tuition. The university’s Board of Regents approved a 3 percent tuition increase for in-state students. For the university, this is the third year in a row students have seen a hike in their tuition.

For students at the University of Maryland, College Park, tuition and fees will increase from $8,655 in 2012 to $8,908 in 2013. For students at Salisbury University, in-state tuition will go up by 6 percent for the second straight year. Tuition for out-of-state students will increase by as much as 5 percent at the College Park and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Aside from a cost-of-living increase of 2 percent, salaries in the university system will be frozen, but there will not be any furloughs.
