DC Vote, a local organization made up of 40,000 people and institutions who lobby for voting rights in the District of Colombia, is hosting a 3-star ball on May 22 in order to bring attention to this issue. For the past 200 years, D.C has not had the right to vote. Kimberly Perry, executive director of DC Vote stated,”D.C.’s lack of representation in Congress has direct impacts on the city. It delays funding to schools, omits residents from important decisions on infrastructure and transportation and affects the area’s public health programs.” Perry also stated that D.C’s growing population will bring a positive impact on voting rights in the District. The ball will include hors d’oeuvres, an open bar with wine and champagne and honor DC Brau,a business that is committed to D.C.’s representation and DC Vote.
