After more than a year of conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, thousands have been killed and millions more have been displaced. 17.7 million Sudanese are facing acute food insecurity (mass starvation), according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan Clementine Nkweta-Salami said, “After more than a year of conflict, the people of Sudan are trapped in an inferno of brutal violence.” She continued, “Famine is closing in. Diseases are closing in. The fighting is closing in. And there’s no end in sight.”
