WASHINGTON, D.C. – Beaten marine claims a racially motivated attack

Christopher Marquez, a decorated marine, told police he was eating by himself at a restaurant at 9th and E Streets NW on Friday night. While sitting by himself, Marquez claimed a group of at least four teenagers and adults surrounded him. He said the group asked him if he thought, “Black lives matter,” and then called him racist when he ignored the comments. Marquez said he was then hit with a hard object and had his wallet stolen, which contained over $400. Police are currently investigating the alleged attack, but have not discussed a possible motive.  Video of the alleged attack has been withheld by police to further investigate.
