Virginia – McDonnell decision expected this week

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to deliver its decision on the public corruption case of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, after more than a year of appeals. McDonnell was found guilty of 11 counts on charges that he accepted more than $170,000 worth of loans and gifts from Jonnie Williams, a Virginia businessman, in exchange for promoting products from Star Scientific, Williams’ company. McDonnell’s wife, Maureen, was convicted on nine counts and has filed a separate appeal. The former governor maintains he did nothing wrong and is hoping to avoid spending two years in federal prison.
