US deploys missiles, F-16s
The US will be deploying jet fighters and anti-missile batteries to further defend Syria from an enemy attack, according to Jordanian officials. One or two Patriot missile launchers and between 12 and 24 warplanes will be deployed to Jordan’s northern border with Syria. The weapons are there for an exercise scheduled to occur on June 9-20.
The officials also said some of the weapons will stay at the border once the exercise is complete. Jordan recently has been concerned about the possibility the president of Syria, Bashar Assad, will attack neighboring countries that support the rebels within the country.
