Washington took a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals after Braden Holtby made 30 saves in his second career playoff shutout on Monday night.
Jay Beagle scored the first, and only point of the night, 7 1/2 minutes into the second period. The goal, Beagle’s first of the playoffs, came on a deflected shot which narrowly moved past Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist to give the Caps the lead.
The best of seven series continues in Washington with Game 4 on Wednesday.
