Smithsonian Zoo panda cub takes first steps

The 3-month-old female giant panda cub at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo has started walking.

According to zoo officials, the cub is now able to take a few steps and attempted to crawl out of her den unassisted before giving up and falling asleep in the opening.

She now weighs 10.3 pounds and will be 100 days old on December 1.  This is also the day her name will be announced.

Voting is open through an online poll and voters can choose from five pre-selected names.
