Senior citizen abuse not reported enough

According to Theresa Hiegel with Frederick County’s Victim’s Services Unit, senior citizen, or elderly, abuse is too often under-reported. The unit says abuse can take many forms. Heigel said, “From thefts, financial schemes to physical abuse. Neglect, drug prescription abuse [and] domestic violence in the home.”

The Frederick County’s Sherriff’s Office in Maryland will present its “Silver Ribbon Series,” free training offered to the Community on June 11 through June 15. The training will include presentations, such as “Family Law and the Aging Population,” elder “Domestic Violence,” “Recognizing Physical Signs of Abuse, Trauma and Neglect of Seniors,” and “RX/OTC Drug Abuse.” These presentations are offered to educate people on how they can stop and prevent the abuse of senior citizens.
