POLITICS – Obama battle to name Scalia’s replacement; McConnell to block nomination

President Barack Obama is left to fill the Supreme Court seat of deceased Justice Antonin Scalia. Immediately following Scalia’s death, Obama announced that he would be choosing a justice nominee to replace Scalia.    Republican leaders and leading Republican presidential candidates are demanding that the lame duck president wait and allow the new president to choose the justice after the election.  Senator Mitch McConnell stated that the voters should decide who will be the next Supreme Court justice with the election of the president later this year.  McConnell threatened to block Obama’s nomination if an attempt to replace Scalia is made this year.
