Pharrell insists on legal decision made for trademark issue
Singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams would like a judge to make a ruling regarding whether his “I am OTHER” company is infringing on Will.i.am’s “I AM” trademark.
Legal papers were filed on Monday in a federal court in Manhattan. Williams is seeking a judgment of non-infringement.
The two artists have been in a dispute for several months, with Will.i.am originally filing objections against Williams in March and in May. Will.i.am has owned the “I AM” trademark since 2001; “I am OTHER” was launched in 2010.
Will.i.am uses “I AM” for business whereas Williams uses “I am OTHER” to produce the hit web series “Awkward Black Girl”.
