Pelosi says House Democrats are prepared to uphold Iran deal
According to Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, there is enough support among House Democrats to uphold President Obama’s veto of a resolution against his nuclear deal with Iran. That would require the votes of 146 House Democrats, and less than 60 have publicly declared their support so far. Congress will vote next month on a resolution to disapprove of the the Iran deal. Pelosi has expressed confidence that if the vote were held today, the president’s veto would be sustained even if the resolution were passed. Republicans such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell doubt this. These comments from Pelosi came as Republicans were agitated by the revelation of a secret deal between Iran and the UN which would allow Iran to use its own inspectors to investigate an alleged site of nuclear development. Pelosi questioned the significance of the revelation, pointing out that it concerns past military work rather than ongoing nuclear activities.
