Parents forgive neighbor for killing their son

Sixteen-year-old Caleb Gordley was shot and killed Sunday night by his neighbor. Reports say Caleb snuck out of the house in order to drink with friends. When Caleb returned, he mistakenly climbed into the back window of the wrong house. The homeowner called 911, and fearing for his safety, shot the intruder.

Caleb’s parents remembered their son on Tuesday and expressed their forgiveness toward the shooter, “I don’t even blame the gentleman,” Jennea Gordley said. The identity of the shooter has not been revealed, although property records show the house is owned by volunteer fireman, Donald West Wilder II.

No charges have been filed, and the case is still under review. Loudoun County Sheriff, Mike Chapman stated that criminal charges would not be defensible if the homeowner was in fear of his life.

Caleb’s parents, as well as his entire high school, remembered the 16-year-old on Monday by wearing the jersey colors of Caleb’s favorite football team, the Cincinnati Bengals.
