Obama’s new Promise Zone incentives

On Thursday, President Barack Obama released his own personal story along with the nation’s newest target for tax incentives and federal grants, the Promise Zone program. Targeting rural, urban, and tribal communities across the United States, the program will help boost the educational systems, job opportunities, public transportation and safety, along with other community aspects in order to decrease poverty levels and increase our economy.

Los Angeles, San Antonio, Philadelphia, southeastern Kentucky, and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma are the first five Promise Zones that will be able to apply for federal grants, benefit from coordinated government assistance, and possibly receive congressionally approved tax incentives. 15 other communities will also be allowed to apply within the next three years if the original Promise Zones prove to be successful.
