Norton satisfied after gun legislation defeated

An amendment that would have allowed visitors from other states to carry concealed weapons in the District of Columbia was struck down by a House committee. The bill, introduced by Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, would have allowed people with concealed-carry permits to carry guns in other states that allow such permits, but not in states that do not. It would have made an exception for D.C., where concealed weapons are banned.

The measure failed in a 24-3 in a vote by the House Judiciary Committee. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, representative of the district, says she was “pleasantly surprised” by the outcome of the vote.
