Sen. Jeff Wilson, R-WA, was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport on Saturday for carrying a gun in the city. According to Hong Kong’s law, carrying a firearm without a license is punishable by up to 14 years in prison and more than a $12,000 fine.
“It was an honest mistake, and I expect the situation to be resolved shortly,” Wilson said in a statement. Wilson also noted that Portland airport security failed to flag the firearm in his briefcase when he went through security. Wilson was released on Sunday after posting bail and his next hearing is on Oct. 30 in Hong Kong.
