NATIONAL NEWS – Tulsi Gabbard resigns from National Intelligence chief position, due to family issues

By Renae Hefty

Tulsi Gabbard resigned from her position as U.S. director of national intelligence in the Trump administration, after her husband was diagnosed with bone cancer. Her resignation is effective on June 30th, and Aaron Lukas will step in as acting director. President Trump wrote in a social media post that she would be missed. Gabbard is the fourth Cabinet member to leave the administration. Gabbard is known for her high disregard for intervention in foreign wars. She ran for president in 2020 on an anti-interventionalist foreign policy platform. While in her position as director, she avoided endorsing US-Israel strikes on Iran.

Gabbard wrote in her resignation letter that her husband, Abraham, has been a great support for her. “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position,” she wrote.
