NATIONAL NEWS – Senate confirms first openly gay judge to seat on appeals court

The Senate confirmed Nicole Berner, a general counsel for the Service Employees International Union, for a seat on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of appeals. She is the first openly gay judge to serve on the 4th Circuit Court.

“Today marks a historic moment! Nicole Berner’s confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit is a testament to her dedication to justice,” said the Service Employees International Union in a statement. “Her diverse perspective will be invaluable as we fight for equal rights and dignity for all workers. Well done, Nicole!”
